Enjoy the splendour of the high baroque at the heritage-listed Old Museum, as the combined forces of choir, soloists, and baroque instrumentalists recreate two masterpieces of the 18th century.
On the program are J. S. Bach’s sumptuous but rarely heard Trauerode Cantata ("Lass Fürstin", BWV 198) and the Brisbane Premiere of Jan Dismas Zelenka’s uplifting Requiem in D (ZWV 46).
Writing to impress at grand occasions, Bach and Zelenka exploit in these works the full potential of the instrumental and harmonic colours available to them, creating music that speaks beyond its own time and place.
Soloists:
Leanne Kenneally (Soprano)
Anne Fulton (Alto)
Shannon Leonard (Tenor)
Leon Warnock (Bass)
Conductor:
Dr Debra Shearer-Dirié
Join 4MBS Broadcaster, James Haywood, at 2:00pm for a Pre-Concert Talk to explore the intriguing historical and musical circumstances of these works. The Concert itself will commence at 2:30pm.
